Chapter 12

“I’ll meet you at JaJaJa. It’s on East Broadway.” Matteo’s voice was smooth on the phone and I couldn’t stop myself from smiling at the husky sexy sound. “I think you’ll enjoy it.”

“Will I enjoy it a little or a lot?”

“I think you will enjoy it a lot.” He chuckled. “But not as much as you will enjoy me.”

“Who said I enjoy you?”

“Who said you didn’t?” He chuckled.

“Me.”

“Are you challenging me to see if I can make you enjoy me?”

“I’m not challenging you to anything.” I pursed my lips and applied the bright red lipstick I’d gotten from Sephora on my lip before applying some bronzer to my cheeks. I knew I was going overboard with the makeup, but I wanted to wow him. I wanted him to look at me and think I was beautiful, more beautiful than Lucia. Though I didn’t know if that was really possible. Lucia was a classic beauty. I was in the cute category.

“I’m glad you’re meeting me.” He paused. “I have something for you.”

“What?” I was excited at the fact that he’d gotten me a present. Guys never got me presents.

“You’ll see later.”

“Okay then.”

“You want a hint?”

“Yes.”

“It will please me as much as it will please you.”

“Tres Leches cake?” I said with a giggle as I grabbed my coat and looked for my handbag. “How do you know me so well?”

“It’s not cake and I don’t really know you well. I want to get to know you better.”

“I want you to get to know me better.” I was serious now. “And I want to get to know you better.”

“I’m surprised you’re actually meeting up with me.”

“I’m stupid.”

“Why do you think you’re stupid.”

“Why do you think, Matteo...” I took a deep breath. “Is Danny one of your goons? Like Paco and the other one?”

“Danny?” Matteo sounded confused. “What are you talking about?”

“There’s a guy following me.” The words fell out of my mouth. “He gave me his card.”

“So a guy gave you his card and now that’s my problem?”

“He knew my name.”

“Okay?”

“I didn’t tell him my name.”

“I didn’t put a tail on you, Emily. I will check and see what’s going on.” He sounded annoyed. “Let me make a few calls. I’ll see you at JaJaJa in an hour?”

“Sure.” I said and then before I could say anything else, he had hung up the phone. I put the phone down and then walked toward the lengthwise mirror in my bedroom to see if I looked sexy yet sweet. I stared at my reflection and grinned. The $500 satin Bodycon dress I’d gotten at Saks Fifth Avenue looked banging on my body. My breasts look plush and prominent and if you looked closely you could tell I wasn’t wearing a bra. The dress fell to mid-thigh and had a small slit at the front so that when I walked you could see a large expanse of bronzed tanned thigh. I lightly touched my freshly blow out hair and grinned at the way the tresses fell down my back.
